# This feature story by Josh Getlin about an often-overlooked mystery writer in LA comes recommended by J Kingston Pierce:
"John's goal, among other things, has been to write an alternative history of Los Angeles from the standpoint of groups and people who are excluded from the established discourse," said social historian Mike Davis, who wrote "City of Quartz" and "Planet of Slums." "This fits uneasily into people's stereotypes of modern Los Angeles, and it's what makes him so distinctive."

SoFlo: MUSLIM PROTESTS (2#) -
We had a relatively quiet weekend here in Broward County FL with the exception of one very strange incident. Some Muslims noisily expressed their vociferous objections to the visit of a Hindu Indian woman who was scheduled to speak at a local venue in Hollywood. And, evidently, they raised quite a fuss.
According to an article in the Herald, those Muslims alleged that Sadhvi Ritambhara was somehow associated with the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya and the protesters used that allegation to oppose her appearance at the local Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center.
Since Partition, the Indian Government has sovereignty over all territory located in the modern state of India and a Muslim government has sovereignty over territory located in the modern state of Pakistan.
Although I have never heard of this woman visiting in Florida from India, I expect that she has a right to express her beliefs and opinions.
The Herald has not yet reported whether the scheduled event took place or whether she was prevented from expressing herself. We hope a followup article will resolve the mystery.
