The Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Someone has placed freshly cut flowers and two votive candles near the house on Pergola St where a year ago the British student was murdered. But there are no cards. It was a gray, overcast and rainy day on Saturday in Perugia. The flowers were placed along the road in front of the fence of the cottage; the grounds around it seem a bit unkempt these days. [ansa]
# Frank in Peruga has posted a memorial entry for Meredith. I believe a Mass will be held for her at the University's church tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the grotesque circus continues . . .
No-knix Knoxy: Amanda Knox has been parading around Capanne Prison without undies, according to several recent news reports, and then complaining that she's being harassed by lesbians there.
Can you connect those dots
into a simple chain of causality?
Unfortunately, this has not escaped notice by a Member of the Italian Parliament, Enrico Gasbarra.
Don't blame the reporters for this; they are reporting it because they think people will be interested.
Or do you think they're just making it up?
I suppose that's possible,
but what about the Italian MP?

Don't forget to turn back your clocks
tonight to return to Standard Time . . .
Tomorrow evening (in our region)
is the last episode of the PBS mini-series

I thought that most dramatic moment so far was when all his identity cards were nullified. He couldn't use any of his swipe cards, including his bank card.

Mez: MORE OF THE WRIT -
The Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
There's an old aphorism in the U.S. that says: if a prosecutor is intent on prosecuting a case, a Grand Jury will (obligingly) indict a ham sandwich.
Judge Micheli has performed a function somewhat comparable to that of a Grand Jury. More of the content of his lengthy ruling has been brought to light. No doubt, it takes time to study and time to translate.
I have not read such a translation; I am simply forming an impression based on secondhand information.
Some of the evidence submitted for his evaluation he swept off the table. Most notably, he rejected the proposed contextual cultural influences such as Halloween and vampires.
Instead, his evaluation seems more chilling. He describes his preliminary, pre-trial impression of "absolute disregard," which we might interpret as an absence of empathy.
And he said he believes
the murder was not premeditated.
Then what was it? A crime of opportunity?
Why push a man off a train? Let's say you are riding on a train and you notice there is only one other passenger in the car. The thought occurs to you that you could push him off the train and no one would ever know. There are no witnesses. Why push him off the train - just because
you can?
There are a lot of wounds on the victim's body. It is unclear to me at this point how many of the 47 wounds are bruises and how many are actual puncture wounds or pricks drawing blood, but why so many wounds? How long would it take to inflict so many wounds by one person or by several people? How many times can you kill someone?
This is a macabre situation - cat burglars don't hang around to use residents as a voodoo doll. They swipe and they're outta there as quickly as possible.
The trial is expected to be more open in its process than the preliminary hearings were. I expect that this prosecutor still has some cards up his sleeve; I don't believe he has tipped his entire hand to us. I expect there could still be surprises emerging from all this. At least, we might be able to better understand what happened there.

FELLOw CITIZENS (2#) -
It's been a stressful week thus far, which is why I'm late in catching up with our man in the media war trenches . . .
This week, Ben Lagen comments on a blog entry written by Paul Boutin at Wired Mag Online in which Boutin slagged off blogs as sooo "over." But Ben disagrees:
The announcement that "real" blogs have been killed off by paid journalists and marketing campaigns, is to say the least, premature.

Could a hyperactive hamster power your house?
"You would need 120 hamsters working flat out to keep a 60-watt bulb lit... But the average hamster probably doesn't spend more than 5 per cent of its life running on its wheel... Each house would need 100,000 hamsters to keep it powered."
+ I needed a good laugh about now.

Good news for those

Intel and Asus are soliciting your ideas for features and qualities you'd like to have. The two companies have set up a website where you can describe your "dream pc" to them.

Many of us recently had problems because of a hacker who somehow found a cyber highway intersection where several large companies converge, resulting in heavy traffic.
The Internapper went into high gear over this past weekend and created much havoc. His concept, apparently, was that he was kidnapping surfers from off that intersection. Hence: Internapper. Get it?
I believe they've finally removed him and
may be cleaning up the debris he left behind.
The BBC just ran an article which may be cogent.

Mez: NO HOUSE ARREST (2#) -
The Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
And then there were two . . .
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, formally indicted last night for the murder of Meredith Kercher, have been denied release from prison into a house arrest arrangement.
Knox, an honor student from Seattle, Washington, is suspected of murdering her Eurasian roommate in complicity with her wealthy Italian boyfriend, Sollecito.
The third principal suspect in the crime, Rudy Guede, an African boulevardier, was found in hard evidence to have been present at the scene of the crime under still-nebulous circumstances.
Alleged residues of Knox's bare footprints in blood were recovered from the crime scene.
The judge released a 17-page decision, but, so far, the only reasons cited are flight risk and danger of recurrence. The trial is scheduled to begin Dec 4th.

Mez: DECISION ISSUED - breaking -
The Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
This is my best understanding . . .
After being sequestered in his chambers for 11 hours, Judge Micheli has sentenced Rudy Guede to serve 30 years in prison; we don't know what their parole situation is like over there or whether 30 years means 30 years absolute.
The judge has ordered that IMO Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, the case be put through the full and formal trial process.
The judge has postponed his decision
on house arrest until tomorrow.
:: GNews-it ::
+ I was able to sign in to my blog without that pest interfering with the process. Maybe everything is back to normal. I have to do some grocery shopping and hope to be back later.

Mez: BROKEN PACT (2#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
On the even of the judge issuing his decision about whether to go forward with the prosecution of Knox and Sollecito as well as the short deal for Guede, it has been revealed (!) that the bra holds multiple traces of mixed DNA. And the Italian media is chattering hot about this, characterizing the revelation as an indication of a possible "broken pact."
But maybe they're just reading tea leaves.
Frank in Perugia has posted a new entry in which he touches upon the controversies about the bra DNA, the piece of glass, Sollecito's computer timing, and more.

it involves a poisoned DNS cache.
A technical executive stopped by my blog this morning to read about it, and I hope he's working on it, because it is creating a lot of chaos for a lot of people.
Onward and Upward! Steady on the wheel.
Let's hope this clears up sooner rather than later.

Then I used: Send to Blogger while on a News site.
This is only a temporary workaround until it's fixed.
