Is this a defining moment for citizen journalism?
The Internet supplemented the coverage of the MSM. Many bloggers, tweeters, and others pitched in to contribute and to distribute information.
"Guys pls stay wherever u r... mumbai
is under terrorist attacks... god help us."
The server at NDTV became strained, so
I tried to avoid putting more of a burden on it.
Here are some links discussing this issue.
No doubt there will be more to come.

TELLME A STORY (2#) -
Our ways of telling stories may have changed, but stories are still flourishing, Sam Leith contends in a somewhat longish essay. Constructing stories sometimes helps us make sense of the apparent chaos we experience in the world.

The Center for Future Storytelling is a sign of the times. The notion that the narrative arts are under threat from information overload, shrinking attention spans, text messaging, social networking sites and slam-bam CGI blockbusters is one widely given voice... Storytelling is a way of trying out situations imaginatively, of preserving knowledge and social value, of attesting to a commonality of experience. And the search for meaning continues . . . [tgraph]

My common sense tells me he was human, but my gut feeling says - and you’ve got to remember that I’m an old cop (laughs) - my gut feeling says I spent twenty minutes talking to somebody who was not from this world. It's an intriguing story at ::Earthfiles::

Mez: MAGAZINE PREVIEW (2#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Light & Darkness: Does Angelface
have a dark side, like the dark side of the moon?
For those who have been living in a cave . . .
Lorenzo Viganò does a nice recapitulation
of The Crime of Perugia: from the discovery
of the body to the beginning of the trial.
"One of the most intricate
Murder Scenarios in recent years."
To supplement this recap, Fiorenza Sarzanini provides some documentation from the diaries and writings of the defendants which appear in this week's Magazine of the Corriere della Sera. She is the Court Reporter for the newspaper. And this is an exclusive preview of a book she has been writing about the case. This issue features a head shot of Amanda Knox on the cover.
People are complex creatures. We have a public face which we present as part of our Social Identity. But we also have private thoughts and feelings.
We have many facets and many different kinds of relationships. We display one facet to our parents and teachers, another facet to our friends. People have complex identities.
For some reason, it is this aspect of the case
which has captured the interest of many Italians.
Here in America, we know that a convicted serial killer was described as a very charming man. And, indeed, there seems to be a recognized category of criminals known as "charming psychopaths."

AMBIVALENT STARDOM -
Psychiatrists have identified a new
condition known as Truman Syndrome.
"It's a delusion afflicting people who become convinced that their lives are secretly being played out on a reality TV show."
This is an entry on Roy Greenslade's blog with a comment thread attached. Although it may seem amusing at first, it has some weird implications when juxtaposed with the BBC's The Last Enemy drama and the more recent webcam teen suicide.

Mez: TRIAL DELAYED (2#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
The trial of Seattle college student Amanda Knox and her lover Raffaele Sollecito, which was scheduled to start 4 December, has been rescheduled to begin 16 January, due to issues related to the organization of documentation.
Knox is accused of murdering her Eurasian roommate who was found dead, inside a locked room of the cottage the girls shared, having been fatally stabbed through the throat behind her Adam's apple.
Knox denies the charges, but some of the most basic questions are yet to be answered, such as: the location of the key to the locked room and whether Knox's rent had been paid for that November. Many of the details involved in the case remain hidden from public view; it is hoped that during the course of the trial revelations will resolve questions about the situation.
Knox has given contradictory accounts of her
whereabouts during the time period of the crime.
:: The Locked Room Mystery ::
is a classic genre of Detective Literature.

Mez: ARCANE PASSAGES (3#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
They say that when you live in an Italian neighborhood, there are always "a hundred eyes" on you. This may account for the expected 90 witnesses. Now, add to that: 280 expected journalists. And what have you got?
According to Francesco Maresca, a morbid circus.
And that is why lawyer Maresca wants the Perugia court proceedings to be held behind closed doors.
But closed-door proceedings will only fuel more Conspiracy Theories. So far, we've come across rumors of the Illuminati, the Masons, the Jesuits, and some group called The Order of the Rose. I've never even heard of that last one. Are they related to the Rosicrucians? OK, so, throw in the Rosicrucians.
Maresca, the Kercher family representative, presents a scenario here that is worthy of a movie in itself, but, he insists, in his theory of the crime, it is "banal."
And he predicts that if the proceedings aren't closed, there will be a threat to public order. That prediction seems a bit overheated to me.
Meanwhile, Frank
is being targeted for a possible SLAPP suit.
"Good news as well for Perugia-Shock's haters. Giuseppe Castellini, director of Giornale dell'Umbria wrote the website that he's going to sue Frank Sfarzo for a number of zillions still to be decided."
I don't think Castellini appreciates the
(perceived) competition from Frank in Perugia.
