Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Barbie Nadeau has a new article posted at Newsweek which examines the vortex of destruction which has swirled around this ghoulish murder, flaying its victims in its path and triggering an ever-widening ripple effect.
Also noted there, the corrosive effect it has had on internet culture where it has blurred the line for some between freedom and license.
For sure, life will never be the same again for those directly involved in the proceedings even after the case is closed, regardless of the verdicts.

Mez: Story Dispute -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Andrea Vogt has a good article posted at the Seattle PI, recapping the situation up to this point in time and prepping us for the resumption of the court proceedings.
One interesting point: a group from the UK attempted to do a documentary film about this situation, but couldn't agree on a story.

Catching The Frequency (7#) -
Does writer Donald Barthelme still have any fans out there? Sometimes when a writer dies, his work goes into eclipse for a while.
SpliceToday, an online magazine, has an interesting interview with Tracy Daugherty, one of Barthelme's former students, who has written a biography of the late writer called Hiding Man. Perhaps the publication of Daugherty's book will initiate a revival of interest in Barthelme.
# An interview with Christopher Miller,
author of The Cardboard Universe. He's a fan of PK Dick.
# David Milofsky has written an article about the future of "LitBlogs" which is wrongheaded in every way. I think he has much too much time on his hands. Blogs that have content related to books, writing, communication or literature are very diverse, and I hope that continues without his interference.
# The Book Beast has a new editor:
Lucas Wittmann. Maybe he's got great legs.
# It ain't me, babe: The NY Times identifies
its anonymous blogging critic, The NYTPicker,
but guesses wrong about who it really is.

Iran: Making It All Go Away -
But Will It? . . .
Iran is currently lurching into a downward spiral, as the offices of two opposition candidates have been shuttered by the regime. No doubt office aides did due diligence, making myriad copies of the list state security forces were after and depositing the replicas elsewhere, well beyond the regime's grasp.
"Iranian Web sites reported the raids
and arrests, only to delete the news later."
Both Morteza Alviri and
Ali Reza Behesti have been arrested.

A bit of a memoir . . .
the heyday of crime reporting in London during
the 50s and 60s written by Duncan Campbell.
# Sara Nelson picks
the buzz books of this fall at TDB.
# More True Crime: Harold Evans is haunted by the

Middle East correspondent of The Sunday Times.

Iran: Reformist HQ Raided (4#) -
First, the Reformists were described as dust, more recently as perverts, and now, President Ahmadinejad has referred to them as pollutants.
This recent provocative reference to contamination has now led to provocative actions - the office of Mousavi HQ was raided this afternoon by State Security Forces who confiscated all their documents linked to post-election detainees.
# Blogger and physician Ali Asguar Jamali in the northern city of Qasvin has been arrested along with other activists, according to RSF.

Iran: The Purity Plan (2#) -
The hard-line official who oversees
the universities has announced a plan
to purify the curricula, according to the LAT.
Although gals in Tehran are currently
required to wear babushkas on their hair, gals
in Europe have opted for bunny ears this year.

Iran: The Defiant One (2#) -
Abdollah Ramazanzadeh tells his story to a reporter,
and some excerpts are translated for us by the LAT.
He refused to confess, but will he survive his refusal?
# Although in general I'm not a fan of newspaper
editorials, this one at the Boston Globe is outstanding:
"Ayatollah Khamenei’s chat last Sunday with students and professors at Tehran University revealed a respect for the power of ideas - and the desire to crush them."
