Mez: Friday
Favored the Defense -

Meredith Kercher Murder Case -

Friday's testimony seemed like the first favorable development for Amanda Knox. A Defense expert, Prof Caltagirone, explained that Knox could have developed false memories under stress and, as a result, could have made a false confession.

Two questions flow from this:

-- 1) is it possible?
-- 2) and is it plausible?

I believe it is possible. People do make false
confessions under stress. It's not so unusual.

But is it plausible in this instance?
That is a more complex question.

What makes it less plausible to me is that the man who was convicted was Black, the man Knox accused was also Black, and Blacks are a minority in Italy where most of the population is White.

If both Guede and Lumumba were Italian Whites, this abstract theory would seem more plausible to me. But, by the same token, if your auntie had wheels, she'd be a tea cart.

UFOs: More
Rendlesham Disclosures -

Linda Moulton Howe appeared
on the C2C radio program during
the overnight and disclosed more about
the Bentwaters/Rendlesham Forest UFO case.
The program is syndicated across the country.

I caught some of it, but there's plenty more
to read, and I've only dipped into a bit so far.

UN 2: Further Afield -

For those who are interested in reading more
about the Nazi Holocaust, I would recommend
the following as a good book on the topic:

Into That Darkness by Gitta Sereny.

It is the story of a small town policeman from Austria who rose in the Nazi ranks. It is written "as told to" the writer from an extended series of interviews conducted with the subject while he was in prison. It contains many hitherto obscure details and even diagrams.

UN Hangover (3#) -

Last night I attempted to find and read Prez Ahmadinejad's UN speech, but kept getting interrupted by lightening and thunder. I had to give up and quit for the night. I finally located a copy of it today.

In his speech last night, he seems to call for junking the UN partition and destroying all the established states of the Levant completely. I don't think that his regime will stop destroying Lebanon until the last Christian is gone from there. It seems to me, his proposal would simply obliterate Lebanon.

"It is no longer acceptable that a small minority would dominate the politics, economy and culture of major parts of the world by its complicated networks, and establish a new form of slavery, and harm the reputation of other nations, even European nations and the U.S., to attain its racist ambitions."

The excerpt cited above recalls
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Green Iran at the UN -

Hundreds of "Greenies" have been demonstrating near the UN to protest the appearance of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad representing them as their president. See link to photo below.

Iran is a theocracy run by clerics; the position of president is mostly ceremonial. The clerics have to authorize the candidates for the popular contest. The results of the June contest are still under contention. And the clerics have been unable to stop the dispute.

Yesterday, I was going to say that I haven't had a reader from Iran in maybe a week; but today, I got one. I don't know whether they're blocking me or not.

Fading Paper (4#) -

There's a review of Harold Evans' book of memoirs at the London Times written by Thomas Harris. Evans was a newspaper editor during an earlier era and then became the Editor at Random House. He is currently married to Tina Brown, the Editor of The Daily Beast.

"vanished times" in northern England-- a sepia-tinted prose portrait of long-dead linotype operators and polymath comps, of bubbling hot metal and the aroma of fresh newsprint, of gnarled senior reporters who had "had a good war" and of taciturn men in shirtsleeves who were legends "on the stone"

Ahmadinejad is scheduled
to address the UN tomorrow.

Expect demonstrations and some
other brouhahas like snubs or walkouts.

Ahmadinejad's Access Denied -

We strongly agree with President Ahmadinejad
that the Holocaust "black box" should be open . . .

Who is denying him access for his research? Who is obstructing him? It is the current Iranian regime which is aggressively interfering with the Internet. The regime is blocking websites and using other manipulations to thwart research by the Iranian people, including its own President, who may not be able to even read my response to him.

Is information about the Holocaust available via the Internet? Yes, there is a lot of information available to the public. For example, if you want to read about the court proceedings of the Nuremberg Trials, you can read the court transcripts which have been made available to you. Much of the evidence presented in the courtroom was derived from the Nazi Government's own records.

Responsible newspapers should take President Ahmadinejad's complaint much more seriously and support his right to do research and investigation on the Internet without his regime obstructing his efforts.
