WEEKEND WEB RAMBLE:
Taking a break from some of the most ghastly
news ever, here are 3 feature items from the Brits...
+ Gotcha! Tabloid or broadsheet?
As Giles Wilson at the Beeb explains, it isn't that simple either/or anymore. Great article, but it is in serious need of an American ancilla.
In America, the broadsheet size has been excruciatingly exploited to stuff more adverts into. [By the way, US papers are mainly regional but are very parsimoniously meted out.] Since the most successful business model is the shopper/service model, this makes for a mostly billboard effect. In the use cycle, you need to dismantle the newspaper in order to extract the grocery coupons and then you need to re-package the newspaper in order to put it out within strict guidelines for pickup by the recycling crew. Do you still have time to read it? Is there anything worth reading in there?

+ Song Contest: Are you missing out on this???
The only group most of us Yanks probably remember is Abba. They're supposedly re-releasing their winning song Waterloo. Remember that one? Ah, how soon they forget...

+ English Radio in Paris: Founded by an Australian barrister, it's aimed mainly at expatriates and the millions of tourists who visit each year. It's called Paris Live and is supposedly available on the Internet via both Windows Media Player and Real. I prefer WMP but did not get good results so far. I tried clicking on their 'listen now' but that didn't work very well for me so far either. I'll try again maybe over the weekend.
