WHEN MORONS TAKE HOSTAGES
Iraqi terrorists have kidnapped two French journalists who are being held hostage in a misguided effort to pressure the French Government to rescind their policy banning school children wearing wimples in their classes.
The French law, which takes effect Wednesday, forbids public school students from wearing religious apparel and 'conspicuous' signs showing their religious affiliation. That includes Jewish skullcaps and large Christian crosses.The keywood here is "conspicuous." By the same token, the French would not allow children to come to class dressed up in Louis XIV-era costumes either.
The wimple which is demanded by the Arab terrorists is a style of headgear worn in the Middle Ages and is today an anachronism.
In fact, the French produce the single best-selling scarf favored by fashionable women everywhere which is the Hermes scarf. Thus, the French are not about to ban women wearing scarves over their hair any time in the foreseeable future.
However, the French have made it clear that they do not consider it acceptable for their schools to be turned into historical costume parties.
And the Arab terrorists are insisting that they own the wimple which they claim has some special Moslem religious significance.
