MEAN JEANNE HURRICANE -
South Florida - Local --
Under the pressure cooker of curfew, tensions developed here in Broward County with a troubling incident in which "bad words" escalated to bullets.
First reported on local TV and then in the Sun-Sentinel, the facts and dynamics of the situation are still murky and confused.
Officer William McGarry, 49, was shot as he responded to a disturbance at theTropic Breeze Apartments in the early hours of Sunday morning. John Yanosik, 46, a resident, was in custody and charged with aggravated assault, though investigators suggested McGarry may have been shot accidentally by his partner, Stevens Gelu. This is from a story by Thomas Monnay. + Tonight I have been experiencing sporadic outages with the lights and telephone. Every time I log online from where I am it costs me 75 cents, so I'm going to give it a third try and, if I get disconnected, this story will have to wait for another day to be posted.
