A visit to Israel by Egyptian playwright Ali Salem has provoked sharp criticism from the Egyptian Writers' Union.

"We oppose any cultural normalization with Israel," Faruq Korshid, the head of the organization, intoned.

And novelist Sonallah Ibrahim told AFP that Salem was "acting as an auxiliary for the Mossad to infiltrate the Cultural Movement in Egypt".
