MIDEAST CONTROVERSY -

The Lebanese cover of The Economist magazine (March 8, 2005), which features young, female demonstrators and has been popular on the Internet, has attracted some negative flack, too.

Prof Mohammed Al Khalil, a lecturer in Arabic Studies in Dubai, pens an Op-Ed at the Gulf News warning Arab youngsters that if they want to succeed with the introduction of democracy, they should conform to his cultural norms.

"Arab society remains overwhelmingly conservative, more so, perhaps than any time in its history," he claims.

He preferred the Hezbollah demonstrations.
