SOME CHALLENGES AHEAD -
Ready for a couple of grim reads?
# Robert Lane Greene is
trying to learn Arabic.
+ Recommended.
# Anthony Shaddid and a colleague from the WashPost go on an outing with a group of Iraqi soldiers and some GI's who are training them, but discover that the Iraqis, after 30 years of living under a totalitarian dictatorship, have psychological problems which are impairing their ability to perform military tasks. Totalitarian regimes infantilize their citizens. The Iraqis are going to have to renovate their brains while they learn the miltary stuff.
Can they do it? Does a bear pee in the woods? Does T&M know pansies? Yes, but it will require a lot of hard work, and they'll have to persevere.
