Sometimes news happens that leaves you so stunned, you don't know how to react, but when I first heard that Mr Teele shot himself in this newspaper's building, I expected a second shoe would drop. And now it has:

*Miami-Herald columnist Jim DeFede ... was fired by his newspaper late Wednesday after he admitted making a tape of a telephone conversation with former Miami commissioner Art Teele, minutes before Teele killed himself in the Herald's lobby. Citing state law, the Herald called the tape illegal and a violation of journalistic ethics, and dismissed DeFede. The newspaper also decided not to run a column based on the conversation, believing it may contain illegally obtained information.*
