Suicide of Local Pol -

One story dominated the local news
media in South Florida until today:
the death of Arthur Teele.

The suicide by self-inflicted gunshot of this Black politico triggered an entire spate of depraved news media activity. The local press perverted the situation by injecting itself into the event and making itself the central focus of the story. Then the press claimed that it was the "real victim" of Teele's death. It became clear as the story unfolded that the local press was using Teele as a pretext and vehicle to spin all kinds of lurid tales, so that they must have resented his exit which deprived them of the opportunity to continue exploiting him as their toy. Most of the press coverage was disgusting and very inappropriate to the occasion, making for a very unpleasant weekend.

It looked like an eruption of group insanity and utterly out of control. On Sunday I was surprised to see that even Howard Kurtz had gotten sucked up the tube by the phenomenon.

You would have to dig to find some factual material about Teele for any record of his accomplishments. He was a decorated Vietnam war hero and a lawyer, among other things. His funeral on Monday included a military 21-gun salute and a dignified gathering far away from South Florida; it was held in Tallahassee.

I can only hope that his burial
will close the door to further
orgies of news media depravity.
But I am not optimistic.
