IRAQI CONSTITUTION -

Full Disclosure:
I am a recovering hoverer.

At least that's what my elderly mother accused me of when her health began to decline before she died. She said I hovered over her too much-- as if hovering were a moving traffic violation. So, now, I try to exercise some self-restraint. At the risk of hovering too much over the Iraqi drafters of their national papers, I just want to express my concern and some reflections.

# CHAPTER ONE; under Article 2:
"Islam is the official religion of the state
and is a basic source of legislation."

+ I think I would prefer the
word "spirit" instead of "source."

# Under Article 2(a):
"the undisputed rules of Islam."

+ I think I would prefer the
word "principles" instead of "rules."

The rest of this section seems so preoccupied with Islamic Identity that I have to wonder why. Are Iraqis afraid that tomorrow morning they could wake up to find that they turned Japanese overnight? Is anyone disputing that most Iraqis are Moslem? Most Americans are Christians. It just seems so High Anxiety; what's this all about, hmmm?

Maybe Sony is planning to buy Iraq...
Or maybe that's just a rumor ;-)

Anyway, I'll try to stop hovering now.
