HOLIDAY IMPROBABLES -
They say that Truth
is stranger than Fiction...

Last week I watched the
Curb Your Enthusiasm cable TV sitcom for the first time. I didn't find it laughing-out-loud funny, but it was interesting.

One bit stood out, however, as truly golden. In an incident I can only describe as Magic Realism, there is an exchange with a ticket scalper played superlatively by Paul Ben-Victor.

In reality I have never encountered a scalper lurking outside High Holiday religious services, but it seems logical that there would be a need for such a guy to fulfill the need for much sought-after tickets. There are scalpers for rock concert tickets and football tickets, right?

But if ticket scalping on Rosh Hashannah isn't improbable enough for you, what about a very public attempted murder at a local synagogue? And what if it were reputed to be a crime of passion involving an elderly man allegedly shooting a middle-aged man over a 52-year-old woman?

Bringing services to an abrupt and stunning end, this news event seemed incredible when it was first reported on TV.
