An Egyptian dentist, Alaa Al Aswany, has written a novel called The Yacoubian Building (trans: Humphrey Davies) which is being released in PB this week by Harper Perennial. It focuses on the residents and office workers of a decaying, once-stately building in Cairo. Has been a bestseller elsewhere and was made into a movie.
