VOICES OF IRAQ -
Heard on the radio today -
Iraqi’s New Journalism:
*Embedded reporters are fleeing the barracks in Iraq, leaving the burden of telling the story to the brave few un-embedded. But whereas Western reporters could once travel freely, they now rely on their Iraqi "fixers" to bring the reporting to them. Brooke tells the story of three of those fixers, pulled into journalism by a trick of fate.*
This was a good segment broadcast on NPR's weekly program On the Media.
You can hear Zayad from the Healing Iraq blog instead of reading him, for a change.
Also featured is Ali Fadhil who has worked for NPR but is now studying at NYU.
You can listen to the segment, but it is on Re*l Player, which I despise. And you can eventually read a transcript, which is supposed to be posted on Tuesday.
I think it is a very bad idea that each segment does not have its own permalink. Some of us are busy people.
