FACING DOWN THE RABBLE -

In an unusual confrontation this past Sunday, Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells water-skiied (in her gardening Wellies!) all the way across the Atlantic to have a word with Earl Maucker, Editor of the local SF Sun-Sentinel newspaper in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This week, she has a bean up her nose about those vulgar comments which seem to be proliferating on newspaper websites these days...

*Q: I am appalled at the comments that have been left on the articles written about Deputy Brian Tephford's murder. Isn't there some form of regulation on the comments posted? I literally clicked the 'Flag for Review' button 50 times! If you plan on allowing comments to the articles, you should have someone who is responsible for reading the comments before they are posted. I am truly disgusted with your lack of attention and concern for individuals' online etiquette. --comment via e-mail.*

And what does
Maucker tell Disgusted?

"Your criticisms are justified."

He goes on to observe that: "Certain stories we publish seem to be lightning rods for controversy."

But, we suspect, Mr Maucker is being a touch disingenuous with Disgusted, because he mentions another company called Topix.net which he seems to have hired to handle the comments-- not that there's anything wrong with that.

Still, we can't help feeling that neither Maucker nor Tom Fiedler, editor of the Miami Herald, really give a rat's ass what we think.

mouthy mob at BuzzMachine.
