State Sen. Steve Oelrich (R), a former longtime Alachua County sheriff who now chairs the Higher Education Appropriations Committee in Tallahassee, called a meeting of the state university presidents and their police chiefs to find out if they are prepared for an event like the Virginia Tech massacre.

He said he was disturbed by Virginia news images showing all sorts of cops hiding behind automobiles and trees, etc. while the slaughter continued. [pbp]
