The Death of Literacy in SoFlo -

Nathan Englander was scheduled to make an appearance at Books & Books in Coral Gables last evening. If there is anyone left in South Florida who is English-language literate and who attended the occasion, please share at least a few paragraphs with us about your experience there.

I am rather doubtful that anyone in South Florida can produce even one paragraph about the event last night. Sadly, there is no longer anyone in South Florida who is English-language literate with only rare exceptions.

My next-door neighbor is a nice young Russian gal who speaks only minimal English. Most of the newspapers sold in South Broward County are in French from November through April. There is no one else in my neighborhood who is English-language literate. That's why there are so few English-language Blogs from Broward County. And that's only the visible tip of a much larger iceberg.
