An elderly Broward County man died while trapped in a 14-inch space between an elevator door and an illegally installed security gate on the third floor of a nine-story building that houses medical offices.

His body was discovered Monday morning by an employee arriving for work who called the police, but it isn't clearly how or when it happened.

After the 81-year-old man's death, an inspector from the Broward County Building Code Services Division went to the building, ordered the metal gate removed and cited the property for installing it. [sent]
