Bookish: AUGUST BLAHS ? (4#) -
The Mystery section embraces numerous sub-categories. There are mysteries with cats, mysteries with gardening, mysteries with all kinds of things.
For those of us who've worked in bookstores, it's mainly a shelving issue. In which section should we stick a new book? Sometimes we put it in more than one section. Here are a couple of new books I've run across that looks like they kinda stretch the Mystery section:
# Michael Marshall is guest-blogging this week at Powell's. He is the author of the much-acclaimed new spooky thriller The Intruders. His listing in wikipedia. This book has gotten good reviews from many readers.
Interesting Trivia: He says he lived in
Florida for a brief period when he was a child.
# Matt Ruff has an essay over at Powell's.
His new book has gotten mixed reviews.
BAD MONKEYS reviewed by Paul Di Filippo.
+ Just in case you're looking for something to perk up the rest of August, you might want to look into these two prospects.
