SoFlo: POCKET POOCH THEFT -

Where I come from, there used to be two basic
kinds of dogs: bench and field. But not anymore . . .

The inflation of the Condo Bubble has left a similar effect in its wake. With the rise in number of condo residents in the area, there has been a rise in small dogs which are allowed to live in those buildings and an expanded number of merchants catering to the increased demand for that type of dog. These dogs now typically sell for approximately $1,500 to $3,000, making them more attractive to thieves who intend to resell them.

But the current price can also inflate the crime category for perpetrators who are not thieves, but are, instead, people with emotional problems.

Local animal shelters often have chihuahuas for adoption, so that it is really not necessary to steal one. Yet the theft of these Micro Pups has become a regular and ongoing item in SoFlo news.

It will be interesting to see if the end of the Condo Bubble will end the drive to continue miniaturizing these dogs, which most vets tell us is not so good for the doggies' health. They are cute, but the smaller they get, the more delicate they get, which makes their health all the more fragile.
