ON THAT ACCURSED NIGHT - (2#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -

Frank has posted a new entry at his Perugia Shock blog. It is his colloquial reconstruction of the Italian Supreme Court's ruling rejecting the request submitted by the Amanda Knox defense lawyers, presumably, to free her. And it is a bravo performance by Frank for which we can all be grateful. It may help to clarify for some, the Court's justification for its ruling - not the Court's reasons, but its justification.

I have linked here to some of the Crime Scene photos, to remind you of what the police found there when they smashed through the door. This was not simply a killing. This was a scene of butchery - the way some people might butcher an animal if they didn't know how to go about it. Not only was Meredith Kercher butchered, but there was blood smeared all over. How does that happen? In some ways it is reminiscent of the Charlie Manson Family Murders. What state of mind produces such a crime scene?

On the comment thread at Frank's blog, a lawyer (presumably JoeT) has posted his glorious Chain of Reason in Amanda Knox's defense. This is not about how well one can construct a Chain of Reason; it is about that Crime Scene. I want the other young women in Perugia to be safe; that lawyer obviously doesn't give a rat's ass.

Amanda Knox is being detained, but she is not being abused or tortured. She can use her time in detention to get some reading done: Proust, War and Peace, James Joyce or whatever. She should use her time in detention for something constructive. It's a matter of character. The detention, even if she is innocent, should be regarded as a character-building experience. Plenty of people have found themselves involuntarily detained - some of them in iron lungs. Amanda Knox is not so special.
