Bookish: MORNING AFTER (5#) -
I managed to catch the Jim Lehrer NewsHour segment in which he talked with Steve Wasserman and Kassia Krozser. Wasserman came off as a well-spoken chap, but somewhat elitist. Krozser didn't manifest her thoughts as aggressively as Wasserman.
But Ed Champion comes along to save the day. Champion links to Krozser's blog entry where she comments about her TV appearance and the end of the LA Times Book Review standalone section.
I don't see any conflict or competition between the paper artifact and its internet dimension. I expect in the future that most periodicals will be "hybrid" publications with both presences. I don't have a problem with this. Eventually, I expect, the periodicals will get used to it, too.

Candidate for Burnout? Erica Smith shares a Help Wanted position posted by the Tribune Co for the SF Sun-Sentinel. The Job Description for "Online Content Producer" looks absolutely exhausting. I don't see how only one person could do it. I would think such a job would require at least two or maybe three people to fill it in shifts.
Traditionally, there always was a live person at the other end of the telephone sitting at the Night Desk, but lately, some are claiming that 24/7 is something new for American newspapers. Not so!

C Max Magee is migrating from one RSS Reader to another. He's moving from Bloglines to Google Reader. I haven't started to use that "amenity" yet.
"Basically, because of navigational peculiarities between the two tools, after the switch I am now consuming news, blogs, and other information in a subtly different way."
You might find his comments illuminating.

Sad News: Matt Phelps and Greg Olsen are putting their blog on hiatus which may become permanent. They will be missed.

I did not meet my own deadline for this entry, which was supposed to be posted before noon. There's stormy weather forecast for later today, which is a common occurrence here in the summer. Well, better late than never.
