FROM YR COLD, DEAD FINGERS - (2#) -
Guns, Books or Sports Section? -
I think I'm getting hooked on
the TV series Waking The Dead . . .
Its first-run broadcast (on PBS) is at midnight on Sundays, but when I watched it on that run, I was completely wrecked the following Monday. It is rebroadcast on Fridays from 10pm to midnight, which works better for me. But just to be sure I would be awake for the entire story last night, I took a nap yesterday afternoon! I think what intrigues me about the program is the way the story unfolds or something about the process of its unfolding.
Meanwhile . . . the psychodrama continues at the Los Angeles branch of the Tribune Co syndicate, which is the parent company of our local SF Sun-Sentinel, too. The latest event was a giant banner being draped over the side of the LA Times building by some of the newspaper's more disgruntled employees. I don't think it accomplished very much, but it probably gave them the opportunity to vent, which provided some relief for their psychological distress. They have just been stripped of their Book Review Section, among other things. They feel robbed, mugged, raped and/or violated.
What happens there is, of course, related to what happens at our branch of the syndicate here. We were stripped of our Books Section many months ago. And it was devastating!
At least they still have their Books Blog.
Maybe they will start thinking about producing their own independent Books publication. Getting it printed up would not be a big problem, though distribution might be.
Hey, here's an idea: if the Tribune Co still needs to cut back the newspaper even more, how about eliminating the Sports Section next?!
