I see that Charles Mudede has posted a brief blog entry about the verdict at The Slog. His trusted source assures him that Amanda Knox's trial was fair.

This case revolves around drugs; if drugs hadn't been taken, in all likelihood, the homicide would not have happened. Efforts of the American Media to sanitize that will not succeed in the long run.

In the movie Midnight Express an American man is caught trying to smuggle drugs out of Turkey. As I recall, he gets imprisoned in a dungeon. In some countries the penalty for drugs is quite severe.
