Rudy Guede received a reduction in his prison sentence because he offered an apology to some degree for his involvement in the situation which led to the murder, according to the Italian appeals court's newly-issued explanation for their ruling.

The Italian system's mission, it seems, is to reclaim the souls of criminals; contrition being the first step on the road to their redemption.

Will this happen for Amanda Knox? I doubt it. The drugs she took that fatal night seem to have distorted her perceptions and may have given her delusions or hallucinations, so that she may not be able to recapture the missing time - she might as well have been abducted by aliens.
