TV Series Finales (3#) -

Over the course of my life, I have lived through numerous finales. Some of them have become famous like the end of MASH, which had tremendously high viewer ratings of historic proportions. This past week, however, was extraordinary even in the longer perspective: I watched THREE Finales!

I watched the end of Lost, even though I hadn't been following the series all along. I bailed out of it early because it was too much like a soap opera. I don't have the patience for that genre.

I hope loyal viewers were satisfied with the ending and felt a sense of closure. The endings of TV series don't have to be technically perfect to be successful.

# Last night, I watched the last episode of the BBC's Life on Mars on our local PBS channel. This series was not promoted at all; as a result, I tripped over it late and only caught it in snatches. Because I kept missing the explanatory introduction at the beginning of the episodes, it didn't make much sense to me until I looked it up at Wikipedia and read up on it. I thought the end was rather well resolved, but I felt a small emotional twinge when the hero jumped off the roof.

# Earlier in the week, I watched the season finale of Fringe. This series seemed to promise a lot, but I didn't feel it delivered for the most part, although the last three episodes were good. I was surprised to learn, it has been renewed for another season. Go figure!
