Seidlin Loose Ends (2#) -

# BREADCRUMB TRAIL: *Last week, questions
were raised about how an envelope containing
19 X-rays...*

"The envelope, from a doctor who has written several books on plastic surgery, was found by a condominium maintenance worker."

The most likely vector, in my humble opinion, would be the plastic surgeon who may have some connection to a tenant in that building or, perhaps, has a patient living there... or one of his patients has a relative in the building.

But it's just a moot point now. There was no tampering with evidence, since these X-rays were extraneous to her cause of death. Some mischief-maker is just trying to muddy the waters and wind people up for no legitimate reason. Boredom maybe.

Bookish: SOME HIGHLIGHTS (2#) -

# The Summer Issue of BOOKFORUM has been posted online for June/July/August. I haven't read it yet, but here are some highlights from the index of contents:

:: SOUL INSPECTOR:
Luc Sante on Georges Simenon;

:: Valerie Steiker on Shocking Life:
The Autobigraphy of Elsa Schiaparelli;

:: Nicholas von Hoffman on J Edgar Hoover,
the Red Scare, and the Kennedys.

+ Looks like they've put together enough variety for most readers to find something interesting there. A good way to spend some of a rainy afternoon, as long as there's no lightening to fry your computer. [bkfrm]

# And next month, the English translation of Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea will be released in the United States by the Penguin Press... from an article in the current issue of the NY Observer.

BRITNEY BILLBOARDS DOWN (2#) -

Clear Channel has taken down the billboards promoting Todd Schnitt's morning radio show which were the focus of potential litigation. A good article in the SPTimes explores the issue:

"The key point is that this billboard was used for advertising, for a commercial, not free speech or journalistic purpose," Law Prof C. Edwin Baker said.

But, evidently, Todd still doesn't understand what the problem is. He thinks they purchased a photo and that's all there is to it. The problem is not the photo per se.

The problem is that the Britney Corporation did not license her image for use in that specific commercial purpose which was a billboard to promote a commercial radio station show.

FL: REMINDER GONE NOW -

*All that remains of the house now is a sandy lot about an acre wide, surrounded by overgrown plants and oak trees dripping with Spanish moss...

The five-bedroom house was built in 1922... Locals who peered through the windows later spotted cereal bowls still on the table and paintings still on the walls: "It was as if they just picked up one morning and decided not to come back."

The house was demolished this spring.*

+ Sadly, I don't think there are enough English-language readers in the area anymore to support a daily newspaper here now. And the one that's still operating, may be likewise doomed in the not-so-distant future.
