English Near and Far . . .
Happy St George's Day! It's a celebration of everything English, including the English language. So how're we doing?
Many English people awoke this morning to discover in their newspapers that the European Union is in the process of trying to wipe England off the map. This is pretty outrageous.
"As Gordon Brown hoisted the English national flag over 10 Downing Street to celebrate St George's Day, it was revealed that EU officials had revised a map wiping out the country and the Channel."

Closer to home, Gary Pruitt, head of McClatchy, announced yesterday that McClatchy, the parent company of the Miami Herald, is not going bankrupt.
Well, whoopty-frikkin-doo!
Pruitt is in California, 3000 miles away from Florida, and has no idea what's going on here.
A) Most people do not want to read a publication that consists mostly of movie listings and used car ads.
B) Stop antagonizing the dwindling English-literate readership by constantly demanding our E-Mail addresses.
