SoFlo: DEADLY HOUSING SQUEEZE (3#) -

The acute shortage of affordable housing, which is the result of a housing bubble racket for which there have already been many arrests, continues to claim more casualties.

The trial begins today of two Broward residents for allegedly beating a homeless man, Norris Gaynor, to death with baseball bats in Fort Lauderdale and for the attempted murder of other homeless men in the area.

The City of Fort Lauderdale and their police treat Homelessness as a serious crime which is subject to brutal processing and imprisonment. It is they who establish the policy and atmosphere in which the tragic events of that night took place. This context is noticeably absent from the current news reports of this case. [herald]

Residents of a mobile home park in Davie have received an Eviction Notice and fear it will render them Homeless, which is good reason to be fearful, in light of the Norris Gaynor Case above or many other cases you may not read about in the local press.

If you receive an eviction notice in Broward County, you can easily end up "disappeared" and getting eaten by sharks. In short, anything can happen to you.

The constantly forced transience of county residents also reduces voter participation, civic involvement, and the arrest of spreading blight.

Strangely, the official number of occupants in that park is not given in any of the reports. The status of the homes, whether movable or not, and their ownership are all murky issues under contention, too.
