A PRETEXT FOR LIBEL -
MEDIA BLAMES "BLOGGERS"
FOR TEEN WEBCAM SUICIDE -
he "had been blogging on
an online body-building message board"
Elements of the American Media are conducting a cut-throat vendetta against American Bloggers by claiming that "bloggers" urged the Pembroke Pines teenager to commit suicide.
In a quote from the Drudge Report today:
he was "encouraged by fellow bloggers"
:: Their lede claims he was "egged on by fellow bloggers" and attributes this defamation campaign to "cops."
This conflation of message boards with Blogs is not an innocent mistake, but a deliberate vilification of Bloggers which is clearly intended to have a Chilling Effect on any point of view which they do not control.

Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Fiorenza Sarzanini reports that there will be dozens of new witnesses at the trial, perhaps about 90. Among them are some people who seem quite credible.
One of the new witnesses is a 40-year-old man who asserts that he observed the quartet of young people (the defendants with the victim) emerging from the house on Pergola St together on Oct 30th prior to the crime.

Mez: LIVING EXPENSES -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Nick Pisa's latest update
on the case in Thursday's Mail raises
more questions for me than it resolves . . .
Pisa reports that the mother of Amanda Knox, Edda Mellas, gave an interview to the Italian magazine Oggi and has unveiled an appeal for funds to defray her living and travel expenses incurred as a result of her daughter's legal process.
This prompted me to wonder about her daughter's living expenses and accommodations. Is there any record which shows that Amanda Knox paid her November rent for the cottage on Pergola St or was she trying to stiff her roommates for the rent there since she was living with Sollecito, presumably, for free?
Perhaps the girls argued about that. Perhaps Amanda went to the cottage that night, intending to move some of her stuff to Sollecito's, but Meredith told her she couldn't remove anything until Amanda paid the rent that was due.
It's quite possible this has been discussed somewhere already, but I wasn't paying sufficient attention at the time. It is also possible that many of the details about this matter will remain hidden from our view until the trial.

KHYBER PASS & BEYOND (7#) -
Some updates so far this week . . .
Chilling BOLO posters were seen around Peshawar Tuesday. Someone dropped a dime on a journalism student at the University of Peshawar, warning that he was going postal. The posters incorporated a blowup of his student
ID card.
# TV Mystery: Who pulled the plug on cable TV in Karachi on Monday? The Pakistani Government denies doing it. The government has ordered an inquiry into the blockage.
# Threats to journalists have increased; Peshawar is
becoming a no-go zone especially for foreign journalists.
# Bus Bullies: The Taliban sent a threatening letter
to the Daewoo Pakistan Bus Service, warning that:
"we will be waiting for you at a bus shelter soon and we will kill your driver or blow up one of your buses; we can also hit your female employees with our rocket launchers."
Following several threats like this, the CEO of the bus service has requested additional security from law enforcement agencies.
# Is fugitive cult leader Osama bin Laden dead?
The US government has no information that he has died despite his continuing silence, the White House said Wednesday after the broadcast of the most recent audio-taped message from The Insidious Dr Z, according
to Geo TV.

Mez: BOOK
PROMOTIONS (3#) -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
Since the other two English-language blogs which follow this case are both currently engaged in book promotion, I thought I'd recommend a book, too.
Maury Terry wrote a terrific book
about the infamous Son of Sam Case.
It's called The Ultimate Evil.
I believe the book has been updated
at least a couple of times since I read it.
For those who are interested in reading books about True Crime, this one was written by an independent journalist who picked up his investigation where the police detectives left off.
Here are some links on the Net about it:
:: A cached interview with author
Maury Terry by John Vincent Sanders.
:: John Hockenberry's
article: Did SoS act alone?
:: The SoS Case in Wikipedia ::

SoFlo: MEDIA CHANGES (2#) -
On some PBS TV stations, including ours here in SoFlo, they have removed the early BBC broadcast in the morning and the late night broadcast, leaving only a dinnertime version.
The BBC late night has been replaced by World Focus.
According to their website, the program
is produced by Creative News Group LLC.
Now that the BBC has gone commercial,
they are also planning more changes.
I don't subscribe to Cable TV nor do I
plan to do so in the foreseeable future.

Mez: A PROBLEM
ON GARIBALDI ST -
Meredith Kercher Murder Case -
With dozens of new witnesses emerging, cracks may begin to appear in the accounts given by the defendants of their whereabouts and activities during the time period of the crime scenario. Perugia is, after all, an Italian city.
Residents of Italian neighborhoods are aware when a bug walks down their street. I have lived in two different Italian neighborhoods in my young adulthood and I have been expecting new witnesses to emerge eventually, so I am not surprised.
Now, in the flash of a moment, Nick Pisa reports that one of the new witnesses asserts that he spotted Amanda Knox in the cleaning section of a convenience store near Sollecito's digs in the early morning of Nov 2nd during a time period in which she claims to have been chez Raffaele until 10am.
Thus, a different picture may begin to form of the scenario under reconstruction. We'll see what develops.
