Meredith Kercher Murder Case -

Luciano Ghirga, the Italian defense lawyer for Amanda Knox, has distanced himself from the recent Media antics of those in the US who claim to support her while they have been denigrating the prosecutor and the Italian court system.

Because of the gray area between the laws of the US, the UK, and Italy, some Knox supporters have developed an air of inviolability. It would be foolish to view the Italian lawyers as maladroit in their efforts to achieve impact in America.

What purpose does the chief prosecutor in this case have to pursue an action against the American newspaper, West Seattle Herald? I do not know at the moment. But even though his purpose may be hidden from us, doesn't mean he has no reason to take this action.

And because we are not privy to his purpose or reasons, we cannot know how his lawyers will go about achieving their objective. They may not press for Defamation precisely. Instead they may use a more elliptical approach. Perhaps, they may choose something like "attempting to thwart the course of due process." Or they may combine Defamation with some other charge. I don't know what they have in mind.
