WAITING FOR A REPRIEVE (2#) -

"Who said a good newspaper has to be dull?"

Seattle is one of the more literate areas of our country. They read books and are more engaged with their newspapers than many residents in other US regions.

Their metro-area currently has two daily mainstream newspapers, The Times and the P-I, which operate under some form of a joint agreement.

Hearst, which owns the P-I, recently announced plans to shut it down or limit it to an online only presence. The Committee for a Two-Newspaper Town wants to know the current status of the situation.

It's a touchy situation. I'm afraid to even breathe on it.

I still mourn the demise of the 60's version of the NY Herald Tribune. Mention this and you can evoke an emotional reaction from a lot of people who lived through it.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page and read the comment about it by Tom Grubisich. Treat yourself to a rare gem. It will give you some idea of the way it was.
