Brewing in Seattle . . .
Maybe the term "newspaper" will be used less and less as time goes on, succeeded by the more general and hybrid-friendly term "publication."
Hearst has now tipped its hand about its new Seattle P-I online operation by making some offers. And don't forget about the Yahoo News Guy they've just acquired - he probably knows a thing or two about producing a news Entity online.
I think a lot of people will be watching to see what Hearst accomplishes on the West Coast with this project.
Do I have any concerns
about what's happening with this Shift?
Yes, I have one serious concern: I am worried that it could turn into a sweatshop-type operation. We already know about sweatshops and we don't want to go backward. Let's hope we leave those Bad Old Days behind and look forward to a brighter future.
