We are expecting a Cool Snap here in SoFlo.
In anticipation of a chilly morning tomorrow, I have been spending much of my time throwing out trash and cleaning up.
I don't like detritus hanging around in case I want to turn on my little space heater. And the moderate temps allow me to use some cleaning solutions with better ventilation by opening the window nearby. Also, I like to spray known crevice paths for bugs in case any of them decide to come in and snuggle where it's cozier.
Thus, blogging has been light for the moment.
And, incidentally, I noticed that the Teddy Bear Teacher has successfully escaped a dire fate in Sudan; she should be safely home by now. All's well that ends well.

MORNING RADIO MELTDOWN (2#) -
# Curtis and Kuby was a successful bicker team in the morning drivetime slot in the New York City Metro area for almost a decade.
New corporate ownership arrived recently and ended the show's run. Their show was replaced with Don Imus.
Most listeners are acutely aware of
the following fact from David Hinkley:
"Curtis and Kuby regularly had more
listeners than Imus when Imus was on WFAN."
Although I have moved outside the C&K listening area, I am deeply saddened by these events.
So much so, that I spent much of last night catching up with the background of this situation on the Radio Message Board from which I learned that the radio station's new owner fired Kuby a month before the end of the show's run. I am appalled at how shabbily the new owner treated Ron Kuby. As a former listener, I often didn't agree with either Curtis or Kuby, but I don't think that Kuby should have been discharged in this utterly tacky way. I'm quite confident that Curtis must have had some non-compete clause in his contract, making this abuse of Kuby absolutely gratuitous.
Meanwhile, the return of Imus is being turned into a distasteful industry. I understand that Barbara Walters is scheduled to interview him. She's really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one, in my opinion.
# So, it was the first day out of the gate this morning for Imus... and what has it produced thus far? Anti-semitism.
His new sidekick is an African-American woman named Karith Foster. And this is her idea of a joke:
Despite her Texas roots, "I'm really a Jewish girl from Long Island trapped in this body, which technically makes me a JA-AP [Jewish African-American Princess]," she jokes on her Web site.
"So it's not 'talk to the hand,' but 'talk to the manicure.''
Just for the record: I dress mostly from LL Bean and I don't get any manicures. And I'm not laughing.
I am offended and disgusted that I still have to put up with this kind of obnoxious crap in the 21st Century.
The radio station's new owner replaced an entertaining, educational and worthwhile show with a cranky sourpuss and his crew who made their debut already spewing anti-semitism.
The Curtis and Kuby bicker team was valuable for numerous reasons, not the least of which was that they provided a model for listeners demonstrating that people can disagree without killing each other. In an era when the public discourse has become increasingly pervaded by incivility, it will be sorely missed.

The Canadian Islamic Congress has launched complaints against Maclean's over a Mark Steyn article, The Future Belongs to Islam.
Canada does not have a First Amendment, and this situation is a direct result of that vacuum.
"When you read that article, it sounds to some people [like] there’s an attack from the 'Muslim' world against the 'non-Muslim' world."
The article mainly explores the issue of demographic flux and the potential consequences of Europeans and Japanese people declining to have children.
Only a very twisted mind could assign blame to Muslims for other kinds of people refusing to reproduce. By a "reasonable man" standard, there is no such causal link manifested in the article.
The purpose of "slap suits" and similar complaints is to control other people by silencing their dissent.

Skippy bin Laden is back with his pompous pronouncements again. This time he accuses Europe of slavishly following the USA. And he's got it exactly wrong.
This, while France's libraries are being burned down by jihadi militants, while the UK is being explicitly threatened by numerous belligerent jihadi elements, and the rest of Europe's indigenous population is trapped inside their homes and under siege by the savagely deranged fans of the absconded Super Skippy.
Why now? Probably because the Pakistani Army is regaining control over the formerly-held Al Qaeda "emirates" in the NWFP territory and, consequently, Osama's strength is hemorrhaging - he's beginning to feel the pain.

Some time ago, I blogged an intriguing story being monitored by Linda Moulton Howe on her blog EarthFiles and on C2C. It was about strange gadgets hovering about.
Well, they're officially here now - or, at least, one version produced by Honeywell. And the Miami-Dade police will be using it.
The gadget is being called the Micro Air Vehicle or MAV. It is remote-controlled, unarmed and unmanned and can soar over 10,000 feet.

# If you've been reading this blog for some time, you would know that I am a big fan of "watch" blogs. This is when a person takes it upon himself to monitor a newspaper, tv station, or some other media organization, and then comment on or react to the material which is being disseminated. I'm always on the lookout for these and when I find one, I pocket it and log it.
Yesterday evening, I came across a writer being inspired by one of these watchblogs to write a piece of his own. While I don't necessarily agree with all of the opinions expressed by the two of them, some of this piece is very funny.
And, oh, yes... it's about the McClatchy Newspaper Syndicate of which The Miami Herald is a member.

Swat PK: FAZLULLAH RADIO JAMMED -
Here's a bit of Good News
from the NWFP for a change . . .
*The officials also said that the military’s signal corps had blocked Maulana Fazlullah’s FM radio and the militants in control of Fazlullah madressah on the banks of River Swat had pulled down their antenna.
The military has set up five of their own FM channels, including one using Fazlullah’s radio frequency to block the cleric’s broadcasts.*
Now that most of the residents have evacuated, the PK Army has also established some checkpoints and a resupply blockade to soften up the rebels in anticipation of a major assault.
+ You know, the silencing of this radio station seems too good to be true. These rebel radio stations can be very hard to get rid of. Maybe a declaration of victory in this regard would be a bit premature. And, by the way, if anything spells "cult," it's surrounding people in a valley and then pummeling them with indoctrination and propaganda - remember Jim Jones? He isolated a bunch of people in the jungle and then set up a public address system of loudspeakers to surround them with indoctrination broadcasts.
